Waihi Beach Tennis Club - Covid19 Update - 7 September 2021
Hi All
Following the move to Covid19 Alert Level 2 the Waihi Beach Tennis Club will reopen for play from Wednesday morning, 8 September.
It is however necessary to have some rules in place to keep our members safe given the more virulent nature of the current outbreak. Please be mindful of these rules and for the sake of everyone’s safety, if you don’t think you can comply, then we would be grateful if you stayed away. The courts will be open to the public, so if as a member you are at the courts playing, it would be appreciated if you could educate any outsiders on our requirements.
Tuesday & Friday Morning Club Days
We all want to remain safe, so please help us in observing these rules which we hope will be short-lived.
Regards
Committee – Waihi Beach Tennis Club.

Waihi Beach Tennis Club – Newsletter 1st September 2001
Hi All - The Bad News.
Please note that while we remain in Covid19, level 3, the Waihi Beach Tennis Courts will remain closed.
The Good News
The hot water califont gas unit, recently stolen from our clubhouse has been replaced including a new locking system. This has been funded by Gary Alway & LJ Hooker including the installation, amounting to just over $2,000!
Please thank and support Gary and LJ Hooker where you can and we thank them for their continued support of the Waihi Beach Tennis Club & the Waihi Beach community.
Below is the change of date and official notice for the AGM – & I thought I had written my last newsletter!! I have suspicions there has been a conspiracy theory in action!
Cheers

Waihi Beach Tennis Club - BJ's last newsletter. 16 August 2021
Hi all
First of all, a message to mid week Tennis & Pickleball players that if tennis is rained off tomorrow morning, (Tues 17), there will be no alternative Pickleball as Wed 18th is the 3rd Wednesday, so Pickleball will be played, as usual, on that day.
*************************
A reminder that our AGM is to be held on Tuesday night at 7pm at the Clubhouse. There is an agenda, as recently circulated, at the end of this newsletter. It has been a very successful season, your attendance would be appreciated.
************************
This week our Treasurer Mary will be emailing you an invoice for the 2021/22 season membership subscriptions due on September 1st. Full details of the new subscriptions, banking details etc, are on the invoice. Early payment would be appreciated. If you are not rejoining this season or have any questions, please contact Mary on 02102513913.
*************************
You will be pleased to know that thanks to the generosity of Gary Alway and LJ Hooker the clubs gas hot water system, stolen from outside our clubhouse, has been replaced. Thank you so much LJ Hooker for your continued support.
*************************
As most of you will be aware, that due to a shoulder injury my playing days are over. So it is with a touch of sadness, I will not be standing again for committee nomination and this will be my last newsletter.
I look back over some wonderful years with the Waihi Beach Tennis Club, which I joined in the early 1990’s after shifting down from Waihi Town. We had a Friday night tennis group which started playing in the 70’s at Waihi every Friday after work followed by a drink at the Rob Roy. As we relocated to the Beach we joined Waihi Beach Club and the RSA and continued playing every Friday to very nearly the present day. Just realised that that adds up to about 50yrs of tennis – no wonder our group is now down to Peter Brown (much younger – of course) who is just about the last man standing playing regular tennis. We have fond memories of Frank Warn and Tony Dillimore who left us far too early.
When I joined the Waihi Beach Club committee in 2008, under President Rob Hope and Secretary Sue, the clubhouse was the old clubhouse and the bowling club was playing bowls on our present courts 1 & 2 site. Yvonne had already previously served 8 yrs as Treasurer and been the Ladies single champion and I thought she was old then!
I took on the Vice President’s roll in 2009 and have been the Vice President & PRO ever since. It has been a pleasure working with the different committees over the years. 2 new courts have been developed and the original 2 upgraded, floodlights installed and the new clubhouse upgraded. The friendly club culture has been amazing and is regularly commented on by our many new members and visitors. Having a regular coach boosted our Junior membership to the current 81 plus the Seniors and others to a total current membership of just over 200!
It is a wonderful respectful club, so thank you Waihi Beach Tennis Club – it has been a pleasure to be a part of.
See you off court
Cheers
BJ

Waihi Beach Tennis Club (Inc) – Winter Newsletter - 9 June 2021
Hi All
It’s been a very wet, wild and stormy winter so far. I cannot remember a winter where we have lost so many tennis days but I can remember winters when we have never lost one. So I suppose it evens itself out, and we now have the option of Pickleball when we can’t play tennis.
So what’s happening? The Club Champs have been and gone and you will find the full results on our website. The Champion of Champions between Laura & John is still to be played and I will keep you informed on this one. It is scheduled to be on a Sunday at 1pm.
The following are other awards that have been awarded for the season. Well done to all of you.
Mrs Fay Moore Award - Most Dedicated Club Member(s) - Bruce & Jenny Aitken
Galloway Sportsmanship Cup: - Leo Cosmos
Juniors:
Most Improved Player: Ezekiel Hope
Best Courtesy Player: Luca Stove
Best Boy’s Attendance: Sam & Lachy Davison
Best Girl’s Attendance: Ella Cosmos
********************
At the last Committee meeting, after due consideration, it was decided that the subscriptions for the 2021/21 season, be increased to cover further costs & improvements. Our club, even with the new increases, still has the lowest subscriptions of the WBOP.
The new subscriptions, due 1st September, follows
Senior: $150.00
Junior: 12 - 18 yrs $75.00
Junior: Under 12 Years $65.00
Family: (2 adults and their school age children) $305.00
Social member: (non playing): $25.00
Non affiliated member: $120.00
Casual court fees: $5.00 per player, per session.
*********************
We have now contracted to Court Care Ltd to maintain and spray our courts. We have had a compaction issue on courts 1 to 4 and I think you would agree that after the 1st machining of these courts, there is a notable improvement which should improve again with further service. We also acknowledge that there is a current algae problem on these courts which will be treated as soon as the current weather allows.
********************
Now for the serious stuff! Unfortunately due to a shoulder injury I can no longer play tennis and I have given notice that I will be resigning from the committee as of the 1st September (end of the club season). I mention this now as our club will require someone to take over my PRO position and I am quite happy to help any member that is willing to ‘learn the ropes’ before and after the 1st September. We are looking for a member that is capable of managing our Website and Facebook pages and be capable of sending out an occasional newsletter. If you would be willing to consider this position and would like further information, contact me anytime, 0274926475, I’m here to help.
*************************
Also on the same subject our President Amanda and Club Captain Carl are also stepping down after their term of service and we will require replacements in these important positions. We thank Amanda and Carl for their wonderful efforts on the committee. We would also like someone to consider the position of Club grounds person or court superintendent. Pick your own name, but someone who would be keen just to be responsible for court & grounds maintenance. Not necessarily to do the work, but to keep an eye on the job and report back anything that is required. There is still more than 2 months before the AGM but it would be great to get an indication from any member who may be interested in any of the above positions. Contact myself, Amanda 0212393818 or any committee member.
****************
To help with the day to day running of the club the committee is compiling a roster of all members to help out with the standard chores of the club that is falling on just some of the members. We will keep you posted on this one.
*****************
That’s it for now, stay dry, warm and healthy.

Cheers

Good afternoon all 4th May 20121
For those of you who are not aware, we have now contracted out the maintenance of our courts to Court Care Ltd. The first session, which includes spraying, is scheduled to take place from about 9.30 am on Friday 7th which will necessitate closing the courts for most of the day.
Friday mid-week tennis will still take place but will begin from 8am and be able to continue until the contractors require the courts. Afternoon access to the courts will not be available for 3 to 4 hours after the conclusion of spraying.
Although we have now contracted out the major task of maintenance and spraying, we are still dependable on help from our members for the week-to-week court care of leaf blowing and general tidiness. We are indebted to Bruce, Norm, Jenny, and others for taking over the task of the old incumbents of Graeme, Don and myself who are falling by the wayside. If you can help in any way please talk to myself or others. We would really like someone to step up and be the club groundperson, not necessary to do the work, but to report when it needs to be done.
Please give that some thought, we need your help.
Also, It's the 1st Wednesday of the month tomorrow ( 5/05) so it's pickleball, from 8.30 am to 10 am at the Community Centre. $3.00 per player to cover hall hire. All equipment provided. Wear court shoes.
Any inquiries contact Jenny 021 887386
If you can help with court care please contact me 0274926475

Hi ALL
Re: The Club Championships.
There has been a lot of feedback regarding the decision to postpone the Championships this weekend. The competitors believe that they can maintain the standards that are required for Covid level 2 and as a number of commitments have been made, we respect their feedback, and we will revert back to the original dates.
Therefore, the Senior Championship doubles will be held this weekend, 6th & 7th March, and the Singles Championships on the 13th & 14th March. As the clubhouse is closed please email or text your entries for this weekend to Carl (0212547101, carl@cmid.co.nz). Alternatively, if the weather allows Team Tennis play tonight the entry forms will be available.
The Ted McCowatt Memorial Trophy for seniors will still be played on Friday 12 March and the 60+ doubles on Friday 19th March.
Sorry for any confusion, if you have any complaints - blame Covid!! It's not easy!!
Cheers

Club days, Team Tennis & Junior tennis will continue but the following precautions must be adhered to:

Unfortunately, our club has lost the services of Devon Brooks who has been responsible for the wonderful maintenance of our courts for some years. We thank Devon for his past services and wish him well for the future. As spraying of the courts is required to be carried out by licensed contractors, our club at this time is considering a contract with a sports artificial turf maintenance company. This company to be responsible, in conjunction with club volunteers, for the spraying and overall care of the courts. The committee would like to hear from any club member that would be interested in overseeing the court maintenance programme and to liaise with the company. Talk to Barry or Amanda if you could help in this way.
****************
Next Tuesday 23rd, around 10am, a ‘Thanks Giving Morning Tea’ will be held at the clubhouse to thank all the helpers for their contributions in labour and in kind, ensuring the recent Xmas Tournaments were the success that they were. If you know anyone that helped, cooks and all, please invite them to join us.

Club Newsletter – November 18, 2020
Hi All
Only just over 5 weeks to Christmas and as usual the panic and celebrations have started. First of all, then is the Tennis Club Christmas Lunch to be held at the Beach RSA on Tuesday 24th November at 12 Noon. Cost is $16.00 pp for lunch with an option for dessert at $8.50. There is a list of names on the blackboard in the Club House so if yours is not there and you would like to join us, please add to the list asap as we need the final numbers by Friday 20 at 10am. If you are not going to be at the club before then, give me a call, text or email and I will add you to the list before the cut-off time this Friday. 0274926475, bjesney@xtra.co.nz. Tuesday morning tennis on the 24th will be as usual, then meet at the Rassa at midday.
*********************
For those of you who can’t get Sky Sport to watch tennis, I have an alternative! Take a Sunday drive to the Homewood Park Tennis Club at 30a Park Road, Katikati, and be there at 3 pm this Sunday 22. You will witness a great challenge between our club & Katikati consisting of 8 members from each club playing for the pride of winning. There is a bit of controversy in regards to some of our local members who hold dual membership. Which club they are going to play for? - time will tell and there may be repercussions. Club Captain Carl will sort out!! Sounds like a fun afternoon – enjoy.
*********************
Now one for the 2021 calendar – mark in the weekend of March 6 & 7 for the Club Championships singles and March 13 & 14 for the Championship doubles. The Champion of Champions between the man and woman singles champions will be held on Sunday 21. The over 60’s Club Championships and the Ted McCowatt Memorial Trophy will be contested mid-week around the same time. If you haven’t got a 2021 Calendar yet, see me and I’ll arrange it! (How’s that for a bit of sly marketing?).
********************
Our fundraising Summer Tournaments are now being organised. Sponsorship this year, considering this year’s circumstances, has been wonderful and the Club is very grateful. We will have the full list of sponsors out shortly and we must support them as they support us. The dates are Sunday, January 3 for the Open Doubles and Wednesday, January 6 for the Senior Doubles. I have attached a poster to the email that you may like to print off or send to prospective players. There will be another poster out shortly including our Sponsors that we can use for publicity.

Well that’s the latest, enjoy the current warm weather and
I will CU on court

Waihi Beach Tennis Club (Inc.)
Good morning all
2020/21 Annual Subscription & FeesAfter much deliberation, your committee, who are very aware of the current Covid19 consequences affecting our members and the projected reduction in the grants we usually apply for, have decided it is appropriate to increase the subs by a minimal margin to cover these losses. It has been a very expensive, however, rewarding year for our club with the recovering of courts 5 & 6 plus the improvements to the toilet facilities within the club & kitchen, with more to come. We must put money aside for future capital projects but hopefully, this small incremental increase will lessen the likelihood of a more substantial one-off increase in the future. Some other Bay of Plenty clubs are now charging membership fees of $200 plus and that is for a 26 week season. Our club with its facilities and great members is doing very well. Hopefully, in these troubling times, we can carry on in the same spirit and keep our club together.
Subscriptions are due on the 1st September. You will receive an invoice with your details. Please check your scam box if you do not receive an invoice by the end of this week. The following are the new membership fees.
Seniors: $130.00
Family: $260 (2 adults and their school children, under 18yrs)
Juniors: (under 12) $55
Juniors: attending school (12+ ) $65
Social: $25 (Non-playing members)
Fees may be paid online to03 1576 0011778 00 (please don't forget to include your name in the reference panel), or handed to the Treasurer, Mary O’Connell, Yvonne Wicks or posted to the Treasurer, Waihi Beach Tennis Club (Inc), C/- Waihi Beach Hardware, 14 Wilson Road, Waihi Beach 3611
Non Member Casual Court Fees$2.00 per player per half hour. Please note if a non-player is playing with club members that non-member must still pay the casual fees.*Prospective members participating in club organised tennis. The club will offer a trial period for players contemplating becoming members. A fee of $5.00 per person per session will be charged for a maximum of 4 sessions after which the player will be asked to pay full membership. Any fees previously paid as above will be deducted from their annual subscription.

Good morning all
Covid19 Update
Tennis NZ is no longer advocating the use of the Promato checkin tool that some of you have been using but are instead recommending that clubs use the Ministry of Health tool.
Under Alert Levels 2 and 3, all businesses and service, (which includes clubs), are required to display the official NZ COVID Tracer QR code posters in a prominent place at or near the main entrances to each of their premises. The Waihi Beach Tennis Club has a poster at each entrance door to the clubrooms to be scanned as you arrive at the courts.
For those of you who do not have the Covid19 Tracer App on your smart phone the following is the link to show you how to obtain and use this app. You can download the app in the Apple App Store, if you have an iphone or from Google Play, in your Anroid Phone.
Click on this link for full details.
On club days you may still log in manually but the Tracer App is recommended.
Stay safe

Waihi Beach Tennis Club – Covid19 L2 – Update. 21 May 2020
Hi All
Firstly, there seemed to be a number of members that didn’t receive the last newsletter. As we send out about 170 newsletters in bulk, sometimes your email provider may classify it as scam. If you didn't get a newsletter check your scam box from time to time. If you do find one in scam, and a number of members did, click on it and mark it as ‘not spam’ and you should not have that problem again. I had the same problem with the RSA for the same reason. I also remind you that a copy of every newsletter is posted in our website www.waihibeachtennisclub.co.nz under ‘Latest Club Newsletter’ and all back copies are there as well.
The first club day on Tuesday went very well as did Team Tennis last night. 22 members were there on Tuesday. For tomorrow, Friday 21, Phil will be in charge. A reminder that it is a requirement of Covid19 contact tracing to register your presence. It is great to see a majority of members using the tracing tool to check in, well done Cynthia. You can find the tracing tool at www.promato.com/checkin to check in either before or when you arrive at the courts. Alternatively you will need to check in, manually in the register, when you arrive. Please, if you are not registering with the app before 8pm the night before (that’s tonight!) please let Phil know that you will be there. It enables him to organise players into playing bubbles. Text, phone or email Phil on 021624908, philmlaurence@gmail.com before 8pm the day before.
For those of you who may be having difficulty with the app I have attached the part of last week’s email that has the instructions.
So on club days turn up at your usual time, register and you will be allocated a court. Please be aware that the club house will not be open and you cannot have more than 10 members together, around the clubhouse. Therefore, wait outside until you are called (just like the supermarket!). Be patient we have to work this all out together.
See you on Court

Waihi Beach Tennis Club - Covid19 – tennis restart newsletter. 150520
Hi All
Sorry this newsletter is so long but it is important that you read it to the end.
It’s great news that alert level 2 brings more possibility of play. However it is definitely not open slather. Unfortunately, because of the difficulty in registering, the courts will remain closed to the public and only available to Waihi Beach Tennis Club members.
At Alert Level 2, tennis can reopen in a way that we are all a bit more familiar with. However, there are firm measures in place from Government to ensure the health and safety of those within and outside the tennis community. It will take some time before tennis and life returns to normal, so it is important that we all play our part to minimise the risk of further outbreaks of Covid-19 in New Zealand.
The most important principle is to play it safe, to contact trace, and to remain physically distant from others. The health, safety and wellbeing of the whole community are of paramount importance. Your committee has been working overtime to cover the difficult task to ensure that all requirements and regulations are covered before we reopen. It has not been easy!
Contact tracing is number 1 and we have been able to find a contact tracing tool that hopefully will be easy to use and administer.
Under COVID-19 contact tracing regulations you must check in at tennis before you play. It is required to enable the tracing of players that may have come into contact with an infected person. This Covid-19 tracing tool is not for booking courts (still working on that one), it is for the Ministry of Health and being collected by Tennis New Zealand for the management of the COVID-19 pandemic. All information received will be destroyed after 4 weeks.
You will require a smart phone or tablet that you can use as you arrive at tennis or you could do it from home on your home computer before you leave for tennis. You can alter the time of arrival from home but not the day. Be aware, it is a 24 hr clock. If you cannot check in electronically you will be able to check in manually at the clubhouse on arrival. An idea is to bring your own pen - if you know what I mean.
You will find the Tracing Tool at www.promato.com/checkin Depending on your phone you should be able to save this to your home screen - Touch the menu dots at top of screen for the option.
Once open, 1: fill in the venue on the drop down screen 2: choose your activity - Private Play or Club Play 3: Your Name. 4: Phone number. Next, you will come to the date and the time which is live and is the time that will register you as you press the ‘check in’ button on entry. This 24 hour clock can be altered to a future time or a future day, to register the time you propose to enter. 5. Tick ‘Remember me’ and you won’t have to fill in any details again.
Gatherings must be restricted to no more than 10 persons. However, by using each set of double courts we can have 3 bubbles of 10, or obviously 8. These bubbles cannot come into contact with each other so it will be a matter of arriving, registering, moving to your allocated bubble, playing and immediately return home. There can be no gathering outside your bubbles.
Hygiene: Please wash and sanitise your hands before and after play. At this stage the clubhouse will not be open but the public toilet and washing facilities will be. On club days the club will have sanitising liquid available at all courts but for obvious reasons we can’t leave it outside. If you are playing privately as members please bring your own sanitises and wipe gate latches and anything you touch when leaving. Please try to maintain the 2mt distancing rule when playing and if you are not well stay at home or go home.
This morning, Sun 15, thanks to a lot of last minute organisation, we now have everything in place and play can commence!!!
The first club day will be Tuesday 19. Turn up at your usual time, register and you will be allocated a court. Please be aware that the club house will not be open and you cannot have more than 10 members together, around the clubhouse. Therefore, wait outside until you are called (just like the supermarket!). Be patient we have to work this all out together.
Winter Team Tennis will start on Tuesday 19 and being winter there are only two courts available, so each week will be over 3 nights Tues, Wed and Thurs. If you wish to take part in Winter Team Tennis please contact Jane 07 8631117, 021 2553447 or broughtonjagb@gmail.com to let her know your preference night. If you don’t contact her you will miss out – only 8 players each night – first in, first served!!! Did you get that?J.
The first day for Juniors will be Tuesday 25, further details later.
Club members - private playing. Apart from Club days each bubble of courts will be locked with a combination lock at all times. This combination is 007 – please retain this number for members only! If you are a member and wish to play privately, just turn up as usual and choose a 2 bubble court that is not being used. If you wish to book a court regularly or obtain the combination, contact (from Sunday), Phil Laurence 021624908, philmlaurence@gmail.com Don’t forget to re lock when you finish, you are responsible for your court hygiene and you must register on your phone when entering the courts.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to play tennis just yet. Hopefully, level 2 will only be another 2 weeks away and that may bring change. The committee realises that there was a possibility that play, for those in the same bubble, could recommence as we go into level 3 tomorrow.
However, some of the conditions are
To comply with all of these protocols and more importantly, have them policed and administrated is not practical to do so.
So, unfortunately the committee has decided that we must remained closed.
Stay safe everyone, our tennis club is doing our part and with your and NZ’s help hopefully tennis will resume in the not to distant future.
We can do this!!
Cheers

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR MEMBERS, PARENTS AND VISITORS OF THE WAIHI BEACH TENNIS CLUB (Inc.).
Hi All
Following this morning's Tennis NZ and region’s update and email to all members, our club will be following the below recommendations. Therefore, there will be no more organised Interclub competition, organised tournament and events, organised midweek competition and club nights until 2 May or further notice. The clubhouse will not be available for general use.
If members wish to turn up on the usual playing times and organise their own partners for exercise or a practice game or two, that is your choice, however, there will be nothing organised or arranged by the club. It will be your own personal choice. The club will, if required, issue each senior member a pair of tennis balls for their own personal use.
There will be a separate email for Junior players re coaching and club days as soon as we get a ruling on this matter, check Facebook and I will also send out another email to Juniors ASAP from their coach.
Take care, be safe.

Hi All
The weather this weekend continued to play its part for the Senior Single Championships. The Men’s Championship resulted in a hat trick win for John Alexander who defeated Jimmy Lynch in the final, clinching the Senior Men’s Championship for the 3rd consecutive time. The women’s final was contested between Laura Richardson and Sue Rafe with Laura coming out the eventual winner for the second season in a row.
The shoot out over 1 set between the Women’s Champion and the Men’s champion resulted in a win to John over Laura so reversing last year’s result.

Bay of Plenty Service to Sports Award for Yvonne
Sport Bay of Plenty has awarded to long-time Waihi Beach tennis player and administrator Yvonne Wicks, the ‘Service to Sport Award for Tennis’.
Yvonne joined the Waihi Beach Tennis Club in the 1980s and since, for most of that time, has been a committee member including treasurer for 9 years and the last 6 years as club Patron. Yvonne was the Waihi Beach women’s single champion in 1989 and the doubles champion in 1994 and 96 and is still actively playing.

Hi All
Game on Turf has completed the new resurfacing of courts 5 & 6 and all comments have been very favourable. Our committee asks that if you are playing tennis please use these courts, if available, first. The more the new courts are used the better they will settle down. Besides, in this weather, they have far better shelter than the rest.

Our new St John AED (automated external defibrillator), has arrived and our club, in conjunction with St John, will be holding an AED training session at the clubrooms as soon as it can be arranged. It is important that, if you possibly can, to attend this demonstration as AED’s are proving to be a lifesaving device available in many locations. Feel welcome to bring your partners or guests to this training which takes 90 minutes. As soon as St John notifies us of a suitable date we will send out a separate email to let you know.

Waihi Beach Tennis Club – Newsletter – 27th August 2019
Hi All
Well the weather hasn’t been kind but hopefully with spring on the way, better tennis weather can be expected. Despite the conditions, it is great to see we are still having good attendances for our Tuesday & Friday morning tennis.
The resurfacing of courts 5 & 6 are underway and the old artificial grass surface has been lifted. Unfortunately the weather has also delayed this progress but with a bit of luck they should be completed by the end of this week.

A reminder that our fundraising Trivia Quiz night is this Friday at the Waihi Beach RSA. Teams get-together 7pm, 1st Question 7.30pm. We have 10 teams registered but it would be nice if we could find another couple of teams. Let me know if you can help in this regard.

‘The Bay Loves Tennis’ – Saturday 7th September. 9 - 11am.
The Waihi Beach Tennis Club is joining with a Tennis NZ promotion to promote tennis and encourage everyone to try out a game. There is a national Open Day for all participating Tennis Clubs on Saturday 7th September. We will be promoting our club through ‘The Bay Loves Tennis’ Facebook page & local advertising. Below is the link to that page so please have a look and how about ‘like it’ to spread the word of tennis.
At our club on that day we will have the new ball machine in action, our coach Shannon will be there & hopefully an attendance of members to create games for all those that would like to have a go. There will be prizes for participants including free coaching and some equipment giveaways. We may also have some demonstration matches and a sausage sizzle. If you could give an hour or 2 of your time on that day between 9 & 11am it would be much appreciated.

Newsletter - 26 July 2019
Hi All
As you are probably aware, that following the success of our previous Trivia Quiz Evenings at the Waihi Beach RSA, the Waihi Beach Tennis Club is holding another night this year to again raise funds for our very successful Junior Coaching program. The date is Friday the 30th August at 7 pm, (1st question at 7.30 pm) at the Waihi Beach RSA.
Get your teams together now, teams have a max of 8 members @ $80 team. Max of 12 teams. 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes totaling $500!
Please support this event if you can – the club, and tennis especially, will be the winner. Promote the night as the more outside teams the better. However, be aware we have a max number of 12 teams and there are already 6 teams entered.
At this stage, we do not require team member’s names, just the team name and team contact. Register your team on the notice board at the Tennis Club or with Jane Broughton, 021 2553447, 07 863 1117 or broughtonjagb@gmail.com
Many thanks to The Beach RSA for their support & sponsorship of prizes.
Further details as we get closer to the time.

Another reminder is that the Waihi Beach Tennis Club AGM is to be held on Tuesday 13th August at 7 pm at the Clubrooms. There are officers and committee nomination forms on the notice board. Your support in attendance would be appreciated and any new nominations for the committee would be welcomed.
*******
Our club has been very fortunate to receive another grant from NZCT which will enable us to purchase a new ball machine for Club members’ use. The new machine, which has been ordered, does not require a long extension cord like the old one and is recharged after each use. The old one has had many years of service, is still operative but beyond its use-by date. We would like to find a good home for it, so if any members have any ideas in this regard, say for a school or club our committee would be happy to donate it or receive a donation from others.
********
As mentioned before, thanks to a part donation from the WBOPDC we are working with the St John in purchasing an AED to be housed at the clubhouse. It is envisaged that the AED will be accessible from the outside of the clubrooms from a lockable, specially designed cabinet. It is also mooted that we have an open day for all members to be able to attend a workshop on operating this lifesaving equipment. We will keep you up-to-date in this regard.
********
Stop Press: The new resurfacing of courts 5 & 6, weather permitting, will begin on August 12th and should be completed over 3 days.
********
Finally, it has been mentioned that some members feel we are spending too much finance on our juniors, especially with the free professional coaching. Our Tennis Club is aligned with the philosophy of Tennis NZ. Part of that philosophy is to support and encourage junior tennis. The Club's ethos is to ensure that no child misses out on the opportunity to play tennis because of financial constraints.
The committee would like to point out that through the efforts of applying for grants we have been able to raise in the vicinity of $10,000 in this regard, which is over 75% of what has been spent.
It is also worthy of mentioning that very reasonable coaching is available from our coach for all senior members at very acceptable hourly rates. The more members interested, the cheaper it becomes. Just make up a group and talk to Shannon, 02102253308.

That’s it for now.

So what’s happening??
It’s mid-winter but still, our courts are running just on full. Tuesday & Friday mornings the most popular with an average of 5 courts filled each morning. Meanwhile, team tennis is spread over 3 nights to fit in with the 2 floodlit courts and also full to capacity. Even the honesty boxes still have a trickle of cash coming through. Our juniors are as strong as ever and thanks to Shannon, Craig, Helen & Yvonne still going on Saturday and Monday mornings. The improvement showing in the Junior members is amazing. You should go up and watch them! The club is buzzing and new members are joining regularily.

You may, or may not be, aware that your club has signed a contract to resurface courts 5 & 6. Hopefully, this will take place towards the end of next month. This is exciting news for the club but there may be some disruption at the time, which we apologise for but it will be well worthwhile.
*************
More good news is that we have been given a generous grant from the Western Bay of Plenty District Council towards an AEB, (Automated External Defibrillator) to be housed at the clubhouse. We are looking for further donations towards this grant so that we can go ahead to purchase this lifesaving equipment. Watch this space! It will happen!

Upcoming events include a club open day on Saturday 7th September, our annual quiz night and the Fast4 Tournament, dates of which I will let you know when confirmed.
Finally, your club is very aware of the importance of any Health & Safety issues that may arise. Please, if you have any problems or suggestions in that regard, on or off the court, contact Amanda 0212393818 or any of our committee members.

Club Newsletter - 20 Feb 2019
Hi All,
A newsletter to keep you up with news from our monthly committee meeting last night.
Firstly, and most importantly Kevin McLoughlin was confirmed as Club Secretary taking the place of Robin Zinzan who is moving to the South Island (I think). It was great for Kevin to step up and offer his services half way through our season and sad to see Robin leave us but thank you Robin for your past dedication to our club.
The Club Championships will be held on Sunday the 10th March (singles) and Sunday 17th March (doubles). Entries must be in by the Friday before each Sunday (8th & 15th). There are entry forms to enter, on the notice board, or just let Kevin (0272735565) or Jane (0212553447) know.
Also, in the discussion on the club championships, it was suggested that the Ted McCowatt Trophy for over 60 year olds be competed for in conjunction with the Club Championships rather than, as the past, being played for on a club Tuesday morning. This would perhaps give a boost to the Club Championships which do have a small turn out. We will be asking members on Friday morning if that would be preferred.
The club last night also decided to look at the possibility of obtaining a grant or donation for a defibrillator for our club rooms, possibly to be able to be accessed from outside. The cost would be in the vicinity of $2,500 to $3000. We will be discussing this with St Johns and other interested parties to look at all possibilities. If any member can help us with this discussion please contact Kevin or Amanda. Also, maybe you may know a sponsor for such a worthwhile cause.
Big changes are being mooted for our club rooms and a committee was formed to look at our future requirements and to cost out any such improvements. We are looking at new kitchen units, new hot water supply, new refrigerator, repainting, new urinal and men’s and ladies’ hand basins, removal of old fan and cooling unit in the old bar. If any members have other suggestions we would welcome your participation and any offers to join the new building improvement committee would be appreciated. Contact Amanda (078634308).
Finally, a discussion took place on the wonderful help our club receives from individual members who quietly but efficiently, sweep our courts twice every week, look after the gardens and grounds, drive ‘Ronnie’ our small unit to keep our courts in prestige condition, vacuum and clean the club house & windows when required. The committee and other members appreciate your help and dedication. We know who you are and we even discussed rewards, but however, the big reward is seeing the club the way it is and we know you do it because you like to do it. So a big thanks from all of us!!!
See you on Court, Cheers, BJ.

Finally a Health & Safety issue. Please be aware that the wooden decking flooring and the concrete around the old clubhouse are very slippery, especially when wet. Please keep clear and keep children away. Hopefully, we will get this rectified as soon as possible.

At our first committee meeting of the new season held last night it was agreed that we as a club, will as in the past, fund, apply for grants and fundraise, to enable our Junior members, in conjunction with our coach Shannon, to receive free coaching for the entire season and to the end of 2019. Many thanks to Craig, Helen, Yvonne and Shannon for their work and dedication to our Juniors. This is exciting news and already it is obvious that competitive tennis will not be far away for some of these Juniors. A great investment to the future of the Waihi Beach Tennis Club!

Reside Construction - Fast4 Tournament Results - 12 August 2018
The Waihi Beach Tennis Club ‘Reside Construction Fast4 Tournament’ was held on Sunday in perfect autumn conditions. 7 visiting teams, as well as the Waihi Beach Tennis Club, competed for the generous prize money donated by Reside Construction which enabled all entry fees and food sales to go towards the Waihi Beach Tennis Club’s junior coaching program. The junior members and their supportive whanau provided the food and superb service to contribute to a very successful day.
Highlight of the day was, to players and spectators alike, the exceptional standard of tennis and the format of the Fast4 competition consisting of 2 male and 1 female member, which makes the quick fast play very enjoyable to play and watch.
The winning team on the day went to Team Paki, unbeaten on the day and made up of coach Shannon Paki, Laura Richardson and Shaun Tamai. Runners up with 4 wins, were Team Hughes consisting of Sam Hughes, Julia Newman and Jack Guilford. Third place, also with 4 wins went to Team Meyer who unfortunately due to injury played all 6 round robin games with 2 team members, Philip Meyer and Kalais Going, which was a great achievement. Team Waihi Beach competed well on the day and completed 2 wins.

Club Newsletter – July 9th 2018
Hi All - What’s happening?????
Well there are some interesting events on the club calendar over the next month. Two of them are dedicated for raising funds to support our Junior coaching programme. Our committee encourages you to help in whatever way you can with these two events as the stronger our juniors become so does our club.
Attached also is the Reside Construction sponsored Waihi Beach Tennis Club Fast 4 Invitational tournament flyer – this is scheduled for 9am Sunday August 12th.
Prizes total $1,100!! Last year at our club the inaugural Fast4 new format of tennis tournaments created great interest and provides excellent entertainment. Print out the flyer and spread it around.
We thank Reside Construction and Marlon and Jane Cosmas for their generous sponsorship.
You and your 2 x team mates (you must have at least 1 x woman) are cordially invited to this tournament. Can you please confirm your attendance and the detail of you team ASAP? Thanks.
FYI, we have some very high quality teams confirmed already (the top teams from the summer tourney), so we also need yours. As per our Summer tourney, we are trying to keep this to the highest level as possible; however please feel free to send the flyer on to people who you may play with or against.

Finally the Waihi Beach Tennis Club (Inc.), Annual General Meeting will be held Tuesday 12th August at 7pm at the Clubrooms. Please think about joining our committee, nomination papers will be available shortly and we would love to encourage some younger members to join the committee.
Please enter all these dates in your calendar, print out the flyers and spread the word.
Cheers
BJ 0274926475.
PS: Recently our club had a major problem with our front door lock which effectively locked us out! I rang Kay at Wizard Windows at 8.30am in the morning to report our problem and with a school holiday program coming up we were desperate! Despite being extremely busy the ‘Wizard’ Gerard was at the tennis club within 20 min.
It is so gratifying to get great service these days so I will give them the plug they deserve!
FYI 'The Window Wizard' (Kay & Gerard) in Victoria St, Waihi - great service for all aluminium repairs, locksmiths etc. Make a note of their number 07 8637189, 0273927530. Plus look out for big things happening in the near future!

The last one he ran was a great success with 20 - 30 kids attending each day.
If you have any queries about the holiday program or any other matters regarding Shannon services please don't hesitate to contact him direct.

Club Newsletter – January 18 2018
Hi All
Thanks to Craig McFarlane and Cooper Tyres Waihi Beach we have an exciting event coming up on Anniversary Weekend, Saturday 27 January. This is an invitational FAST4 Tennis tournament consisting of 12 teams of 3 invited top ranked players including a min of 1 female player in each team. 50% of the players will come from invited players that have attended our summer tournaments and the other 50% from Tennis Western Bays. Most of you, which included myself, will not know what FAST4 Tennis is all about, so I have attached the history of FAST4 Tennis including of course the rules. Have a read, I am sure, like myself, you will be impressed. The mixed doubles in the recent International Hopman Cup at Perth used FAST4 Tennis and it is becoming increasingly popular worldwide.
All proceeds from our Tournament will go to our free junior tennis coaching programme which has just been approved again for the 1st term. Proceeds from the kitchen will also go to our junior programme so we are asking assistance from all our members, especially our Junior parents to help on the day in the kitchen or provide saleable home cooking in our ‘cafe’. Admission on the day is free but may I suggest you bring the family up to watch a game or 2 and have morning tea or lunch with us. Coach Shannon will be playing so I know our Juniors would love to be here to cheer him on. Please promote the tournament as much as possible and if you could help in the kitchen roster, contact Mary (863 4272) to work out a time. The day starts at 9am and should conclude early afternoon.
Please support Cooper Tyres Waihi Beach for supporting our club.
**********
While we are on the subject of very important Tournaments, would all 60 year old and over club players take note that the annual Ted McCowatt Memorial Senior Tournament will be held in conjunction with Tuesday morning tennis on Tuesday 13th February. The tournament will be 3 20 min games of drawn pairs comprising a fun day for a very attractive and important trophy.
**********
Any club member that may be interested in attending an umpire and supervisor course please contact Secretary Robin (8634535) for further details. This course will allow you to manage tournaments effectively, up to a Tier 3 level. It is run by NZ Tennis Umpires Assn. The course is run by a NZ Umpire and during the 5-6 hour session we will be learning from Videos, and workbooks and practical demonstrations, such things as Tennis NZ Code of Conduct,Self Umpiring Code, and dealing with players using the Code of Conduct.
**********
All Juniors and parents please note that the first Junior club day with coach Shannon will be held on Saturday 10th February and the first junior coaching day Monday 12th February. Our club has again decided to continue our free junior coaching programme for all Junior financial members for another term. Please support fund raising such as the forthcoming FAST4 tournament ‘cafe’ so we can keep this very important programme going.
**********
Our mid week club days have started the year very strong with courts at the last 2 mid week days being full. Our club though is concerned that our 4pm Sunday club day is not being supported and we want to know why. To this end you will receive shortly a questionnaire asking your support to fill in a survey of your tennis requirements so that we can see what the problem is. Phil is instigating this survey and we thank him for his efforts on this one.
**********
Talking about thanking people, many thanks to Don Young and Tony Roberts for their recent efforts around the club grounds, it is very much appreciated. Also, again, thanks to Andy, Phil, Yvonne and the organising crew and Jane and her helpers in the kitchen and all those who donated food, that made the recent tournaments so successful. These people along with our sponsors are the reason our club is looking so great and our juniors are flourishing in our free coaching programme. Thanks to all!!
**********
Finally, may we recommend to you the Waihi ‘This is Me Festival’ which is to be held on Morgan Park on Sat 17th Feb from 10am to 1pm to encourage girls and women into sports.
**********
Well that’s it from me, don’t forget to check out the attachment
See you on court

Club Newsletter – November 29th Nov 2017
Hi All
Well, it’s hard to believe but by the end of the week, it will be December and just over 3 weeks to Xmas!!
Lots of things are happening in the club. Firstly next week following last season’s huge success of our Junior promotion, we are sponsoring our coach Shannon Paki to run a school programme at the Waihi Beach School again. Shannon will be running the programme on Monday 4th Dec and Wednesday 6th Dec. Hopefully, this will result in another influx of Junior members or at the very least a successful promotion for the benefit of our Waihi Beach school children.
We Thank the NZ Community Trust and Trust Waikato for their generous grants to help with the success of this programme. Also Craig McFarlane for helping in this regard and for his ongoing commitment to our juniors.
**********
The last Club Day for Junior Tennis is Saturday 16 December and the last coaching day is Monday 18th December.
Junior Tennis restarts with a club day on Saturday10 February and the 1st Coaching day restarts on Monday 18th February.
**********
We will hold the Tuesday and Friday morning Club tennis and the Sunday afternoon tennis as usual through the holidays except for Tuesday 26th Dec and 2nd & 9th Jan. Otherwise, if you feel like a game to get rid of that Xmas fare just turn up at the usual time and I am sure there will be enough starters to put a 4 together. Keep the numbers up also for Sunday tennis as it is dropping off a bit in that regard.
Team Tennis will finish on December 20th.
**********
On Tuesday 12th December at 12 noon, the Xmas Dinner we are having at the Rassa has a great following with minimum numbers easily reached. There is still plenty of room if you haven’t got your name down and if you haven’t seen the menu check it out (attached). You will see that this is certainly a great deal for $20.00 per person. They will even throw in, if you are that way inclined, a dessert for $5. If you haven’t done so please get your names down asap so that we can confirm numbers by Tuesday 5th please. There is a list of names on the menu on the notice board at the club or ring Barry 863 5565 or Robin ZinZan 863 4535 or any committee member. Get your names down now and pay on the day.
**********
Entries for our Annual Open Tournaments are flowing in and as this is our annual fundraiser for the club we ask for club member support in the way of baking to sell out of the kitchen or help on the day in the kitchen or just generally. Contact Jane if you could help in this regard, it would be much appreciated and goes a long way to help keep our subs down and our courts in the marvelous condition that they are.
The Tournament Dates are:
Wednesday 27th December – Open Mens and Open Women's Doubles.
Tuesday 2nd January – Vets Mens and Ladies Doubles.
Tuesday 9th January – Mixed Doubles.
**********
One of our lady club members is missing an orange Head racket with a white grip. It went missing from the clubhouse 2 weeks ago and hasn’t been returned. If you could help Daniela in any way to find this racket it would be much appreciated. Give her a ring on 0279432114.
**********
Would all members please ensure their subs are paid before the end of the year. They are now well overdue and if you don’t hurry there will be two years to pay for!
**********
The club has 2 or 3 older tennis nets that we wish to dispose of. Before we put them on Trade Me are there any club members that would like to make an offer on 1 or more and I am sure we could come to some arrangement. Contact Barry for a deal 0274926475
**********
Finally, in true Xmas spirit, Jane and Mary are organising a collection of non-perishable food items to distribute to local food banks. It has been suggested that over the next 2 weeks that when you come to tennis bring a food item and Jane and Mary will put it all together to make this Xmas a little bit better for those in need.
On that point I would, on behalf of your committee, wish you a very Merry Xmas and a prosperous New Year.
Cheers, See you on court, BJ
Club Newsletter – October 24th 2017
Hi All
It has been a good start to the season with good numbers attending club days from Juniors to Seniors. The weather has not been kind but we have in actual fact lost very little of tennis time. Team Tennis has again been very popular on a Wednesday evening and mid week tennis on Tuesday and Thursday mornings is as strong as ever with most courts filled each morning.
**********
Free coaching for our financial Junior members started again this term on Monday 16th October with Coach Shannon. This term Shannon has split the coaching into 5 groups based on ability and age. They meet every Monday afternoon at their allocated times which are 3 to 3.30pm Tiny Tots (6yr and below); 3.30 – 4pm Tiny Tots; 4 – 4.45pm Group 1; 4.45 – 5.45pm Group 2; 5.45 – 6.45pm Group 3. In addition Saturday between 9 – 11am is club day for juniors aged from 7 years which is also organised by coach Shannon. Check Face Book or our website to check times or to keep up with what is happening. Feel free to ring Shannon at any time if you have any questions 021 022 53308.
**********
Working Bees are a necessity for our club to keep it in the wonderful condition it is in. The working Bee recently organised by Phil to clean out the drain next to court 5 was a great success and Phil would like to thank all those that turned out. It wasn’t easy and very mucky but well worth the effort. The removal of the Pohutakawa trees on that boundary, thanks to WBOPDC, has been a very successful exercise, which has opened up the courts and kept them free of the usual debris. There is a team made up of various members that sweep regularly, rake regularly, spray regularly plus the vacuuming and window cleaning. It all just seems to happen so thank you all.
**********
Now that I have buttered you up – we need a working bee this Sunday, 29th October at 9am to tidy up a few items. Some ties at the bottom of the court netting have rusted and others are breaking off so we are going to replace with plastic electrical ties. Easy to put on and should at least last as long. You need a pair of pliers and side cutters for that job. The flax bush needs trimming and the shrubs on the bank need cutting back as well – pruners and hedge cutters. The club windows need a wash – we have the hose and brushes. The terrace table and forms need a top coat – we have the paint you bring the brushes. If we have enough turn up we will be out of there within the hour. Make the effort and pick a job.
**********
Now for some housekeeping – (1.) We do not have a PO Box anymore. Because of the increasing cost and the very few mail items we now receive, our new postal address, thanks to Robert & Sue, is C/- Beach Hardware, 14 Wilson Road Waihi Beach 3611. (2.) We receive a number of invites through Tennis WBOP to tournaments etc around the Bay and further afield. There are very few members that travel to these tournaments but if you do require this information you will find a link in our website to Tennis WBOP including a link to their newsletters and what’s on. (3.) Our club has obtained a software package to set up and run our tennis tournaments. Hopefully this will make the running of these tournaments much easier and efficient. We need a team of 4 or 5 members to learn how to use this facility which should be interesting and an enjoyable experience. If you can help in this regard please contact Phil (863 4176), Robin (863 4535) or John (0277033705).
**********
Finally, subs should now have been paid so if you haven’t done so please pay yours as soon as possible. Also if anyone knows members Darren & Jenny Smith, Caleb & Ella could you get them to contact Barry 07 863 5565, I need contact details off them.
Hopefully will see you on Sunday or see you on court.
Cheers
BJ
Hi All - Jane here
It appears that the most popular night for Team Tennis is Wednesday night. There are only 2 people that are unable to play on this night that i am aware of and i do apologize to them. There has been an amazing response to playing in this fun competition which is fantastic; John and i will meet this weekend to sort out teams - hopefully we can cater for all but maybe some will be on a reserve list?
The muster is next Wednesday 27th September at 5.45pm - so come along for an evening of tennis and to find out which team you will be in and how this years comp will be run. You can arrive early to warm up (club room open from 5.30 pm) BYO drinks and nibbles for after. Reminder there is a $10.00 entry fee pp and this includes the second half of comp at beginning of 2018.
See you all there
Jane
Any queries contact me on 021 2553447 or John 027 7033705
Also, it has been decided that club tennis will now be held on Sunday afternoons at 4 pm (3 pm over the winter months). This has been decided as there are a large number of members wanting to play team tennis evening mid week and as this also clashes with road & trail riding it is thought that one mid-week evening is enough. The Sunday afternoon tennis has been well patronized and seems to be growing further.
So this Sunday will be the first Sunday club night at 4pm. You can play as long or as short a time as you like. Good tennis to finish off the weekend.
Cheers

Summer Team Tennis Alert
Calling all you keen tennis players who want to be part of this season's evening summer Team Tennis competition. John Alexander and Jane Broughton are organizing this for 2017/18 season.
Do you want to play on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, as we know Tuesday night cuts out the mountain bikers, and we just want to find the night that suits most people. Please let me know your preference asap
It will be starting at 5.45 pm on the week daylight saving starts so that is either the 26th 27th or 28th September with a muster at the club rooms when you will find out what team you are in and how it is going to be run this year.
We welcome new players who wish to play competitive tennis in a fun environment. If you know of anyone who may be interested please give them our contact details.
Can you all register your interest with Jane or John by Sunday the 24th September, we will need at least 24 players and a good pool of reserves. We will phone you if we don't hear from you by next weekend.

Club Newsletter – September 1st 2017
As stated in the last newsletter there willl be a $10.00 increase in subscriptions this season to cover the cost of an increase in national levies. This is the first increase for a number of years but our fees still remain the lowest in the Bay and the club has decided not to increase the family sub. Also the club, looking forward into the new season, decided to continue with the free professional coaching for our junior members as long as financially possible. This makes their subscriptions very attractive. Thank you again to The New Zealand Community Trust for your grant toward this project.
The new season starts today and you should receive with this newsletter an invoice for your 2017/18 membership. It would be appreciated if you could pay as soon as possible after receipt of your invoice. Bank details will be on the invoice or can be found online in our website. They may also be paid direct to our Treasurer, Mary O’Connell, Yvonne Wicks or posted to the Treasurer, C/- Waihi Beach Hardware, 14 Wilson Road, Waihi Beach. 3611
The new rates for the 2017/2018 season are:
Seniors: $110.00
Family: $250 (2 adults and their school children)
Juniors: (under 12) $40
Juniors: attending school (12 ) $50

Now another appeal to our members before we lose it. Coach Shannon, has been holding ‘Tennis Fit’ sessions every Monday either at 2pm or 7pm. This has been enjoyed by a hard core of 4 – 5 members who speak very highly of the fun and enjoyment as well as the fitness side. Shannon charges a fee of $6.00 per session, which is obviously very reasonable. However, unfortunately we need more numbers to make the sessions viable for Shannon. We really only need another 2 or 3 members.
Please give this some consideration; we would really like about 10 members as we do not want this enjoyable session to finish. If you would like further information, or have any suggestions, give Helen, 022 379 3620 a ring or Craig 021 220 4745.

For your information and as a warning to all clubs and organisations please feel free to pass the following message on.
I pass this message on from our President John Alexander
The Waihi Beach Tennis Club was targeted by email scammers this week. Fortunately the scam was not successful. I wanted to share details of the scam with you, so that you can warn other clubs and organisations in the region in case they are also targeted.
The scam goes as follows:
The scammer's emails are personal and very well written and it wasn't until they became demanding that we realised it was clearly a scam.
Can you please share this warning with other clubs in the region.

Club Newsletter – August 11th 2017
Hi All
Well another season is just about over and we are all looking forward towards the spring/summer and some better weather. Today was a beautiful morning for Friday tennis and we had 20 players in attendance. Team Tennis has been hit particularly hard recently with over 50% of our nights washed out. However, it is winter and what else would you expect playing tennis in winter! Overall it has been great with excellent attendance, some new members and very enjoyable company.
3pm Sunday tennis is still on the go but it would be good to increase those numbers so don’t forget it gives you another opportunity to play & if necessary we will grade the players – join us.
The Juniors who have been playing through the winter months on a Monday afternoon are still as keen as ever. Unfortunately coach Shannon has been knocked down with the dreaded lurgy last week and we wish him well for a speedy recovery.
Also Tennis Fit evenings every Monday night between 7 & 8pm is still being enjoyed by half a dozen members. They would like more to make it viable for Shannon. Can you help, it is very enjoyable and rewarding (the improvement in the attending members is very noticeable!!). This includes some of our better senior players! The fee is $6.00 a night for an hour!!! Contact Helen 022 3793620 for further info.
Our AGM was held on Tuesday night and it was pleasing to see a good attendance of members and the election of keen, new committee members. President Greg and Secretary Helen were presented with gifts from the club in recognition of their efforts over the last few years with special recognition for their work with the Juniors which they have signified they wish to continue with.
The Election of Officers resulted in the following positions
Patron: Yvonne Wicks
President: John Alexander
Vice President: Phil Laurence
Secretary: Robin Zinzan
Treasurer: Mary O’Connell
Club Captain: Jane Broughton
Mid Week Captain: Yvonne Wicks
General Committee: Jude Eagle, Rob Hope, Gay Bainbridge, Carl Menary, John van der Zwan, Barry Jesney (PRO).
Contact details for the committee, can be found on our website. The Chairman, Club Captains and Junior reports from the AGM can also be found on our website.
Following the AGM the Committee held its first meeting of the new season which included establishing the annual membership fees for the new season. Unfortunately there will be a $10.00 increase in subscriptions this season to cover the cost of an increase in national levies. This is the first increase for a number of years but our fees still remain the lowest in the Bay and the club has decided not to increase the family sub.
The new season starts on September 1st and you will receive an invoice in the near future for your 2017/18 membership. It would be appreciated if you could pay as soon as possible after receipt of your invoice. Bank details will be on the invoice or can be found online in our website.
The new rates for the 2017/2018 season are:
Seniors: $110.00
Family: $250 (2 adults and their school children)
Juniors: (under 12) $40
Juniors: attending school (12 ) $50
Social: (non playing members) $25
We all look forward to the new season.
See you on court. BJ.

Hi All
Thank you to all of you that supported our very successful Trivia Night on Friday night. We had 12 teams of 8 and 2 or 3 helpers which equates to 100 people that contributed one way or another. Haven’t got the final figures back yet but I believe like last year we will have raised or had donated close to $1,000. This year that money is going to support Junior coaching which has been so successful and boosted our membership by 60 Juniors. We intend to carry on with very popular coach Shannon Paki with this free coaching of our financial juniors through the winter and into the summer months. A special thanks to the Waihi Beach RSA for their sponsorship of the trivia night and the use of their clubrooms and to our President Craig McFarlane for his Quiz Master skills and donation.
Congratulations to Jane Broughton and her team ’50 Love’ as the nights winners with 49 points (after taking 3rd place last year). Runner up on the night and 4 points behind was Maree and her ‘Mapraps’. The 3rd place club cash winners were second time Podium winners Sue Hope and her team the ‘Beach Road Bloc’ with 42 points.
For those of you that took part on the night and for others who may be interested, I have attached the points table so you can see where you may of gone wrong or more so how you got it right!
**********
A reminder that our AGM is this Tuesday the 8th August at 7pm in the club rooms. It would be nice to see a good attendance of members to support your committee that has had a very successful year. This AGM sees the departing of our Secretary Helen Harrison and President Craig McFarlane both of whom have made such valuable contributions to our tennis club in their time in office. Thank you Craig & Helen for your dedication and especially the contribution you have made to our Junior coaching programme. Next year is in for a promising start as well with all of our committee vacancies and positions already being full.
**********
A reminder to our senior members that we are still running our Sunday club tennis through the winter at 3pm. It would be good to see the numbers build up on these Sundays, we just play for an hour or more and it is a great way to finish the weekend. Join us – it’s fun and good tennis. Casual tennis players not taking part in club play please remember that club days have dominance over the courts in use.
That’s it for now

Hi All
Following the success of last year’s Trivia Quiz Evening at the Waihi Beach RSA, we are holding another night this year to raise funds for our very successful Junior Coaching. The date is Friday, the 4th August at 7pm at the Waihi Beach RSA.
Get your teams together now, teams have a max of 8 members @ $80 team. 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes (sponsors required - can you help with this one?).
Please support the club if you can – we as a club, and tennis especially, will be the winner. We have finished the summer season with 70 Juniors which is awesome and the coaching programme is carrying on over the winter as well. We owe this huge success to the free coaching programme we instigated and the dedication of Shannon our coach.
This is a fun night so support the club to support our Juniors. Hopefully, our parents will help out by making up some teams. I believe some of last year’s teams are still around but some have just come out of hiding! The Beach Bunnies, The Gay Guessers (sorry Gay’s Guessers), The Happy Hawaiians, Bojeni, Grey Matter and the not so Eight Sharp are just a few of the teams that bring back last year’s memories.
At this stage we do not need team member’s names (max 8 per team), just the team name and team contact. Register your team on the notice board at the club house or with Helen, 022 3793620 or Barry 07 863,5565, 0274926475.
Further details as we get closer to the time. Thanks for your support .

More awesome news re our Junior coaching. We have just received a grant of $4,000 from NZCT towards continued funding for our Junior Coaching programme. Thank you so much NZ Community Trust!

Now, for some more coaching news. As you may or may not be aware the club, in conjunction with Shannon, has been holding a Tennis Fit Evening every Monday night between 7 & 8pm. This has been enjoyed by a hard core of 4 – 5 members who speak very highly of the fun and enjoyment as well as the fitness side. Shannon charges a fee of $6.00 per night, which is obviously very reasonable. However, unfortunately we need more numbers to make the session viable for Shannon.

Hi All
Although we are in mid winter there is still lots of court action with good support for our Tuesday & Friday club days as well as team tennis and of course our very strong junior coaching squad under the weekly tuition of coach Shannon. Winter team tennis is also going well and also good interest for our Sunday graded tennis. It’s all happening with great support from everyone.

Don’t forget this Sunday 11th June – 1pm. Presentation of trophies & End of Season get together. Tennis for all at 1pm followed by afternoon tea and prize giving at 3pm. Please bring a plate of finger food or nibbles to share.
**************
While you are putting dates in the calendar, mark down 7pm on the 9th August for our AGM. Please consider giving something back to the club by standing for a turn on the committee. We just meet once a month and we will have some vacancies, so it would be great to see some new and possibly younger members on the committee. There will be nomination forms on the notice board.
**************
Thanks to Don & Robin Young & Yvonne, our popular little library was just given the once over with some of the older books making their way to the Lions Book Fair. There are a few gaps on the shelves now so any donations of good books would be appreciated. The library is for club members to read, swap or donate to. Feel free to make use of it.

As reported in the last newsletter you will be aware that Devon our wonderful court maintenance man will be stepping down from the 25 June. John Alexander has gratefully offered to take up some driving skill lessons to drive ‘Ronnie’ our converted ride-on which drags the brushes to sweep the courts about every 3 to 4 weeks. One of the jobs that need to be done before each sweeping is to rake the leaves from courts 4, 5 & 6. For John to do this before sweeping it will take about an hour . However, if there were 4 or 5 volunteers to rake the courts before John, it will take them only half an hour and John can get on with the sweeping. With all the rain you will notice that occasionally there has been a build up of sand in the side drains on courts 1, 2 & 3. This sand can be scooped up and scattered onto the courts before sweeping and an easy job for numbers but slow for one. So what we asking for is a list of club volunteers to form a raking brigade (we have the leaf rakes) that we can call on about once every 3 or 4 weeks for half to one hour. If you are willing to help in this way please let me know and I will make up a list. You will be on call to rake on the morning that John is available to sweep. If we have more than enough that would be good if some are not available when asked. This could be any day of the week depending on weather and John. There will be a list on the notice board or ring, text or email me at bjesney@xtra.co.nz Phones 0274926475 or 078635565. Devon has the courts in immaculate condition and it will be a hard act to follow so we thank Devon again for the work and effort he has done in the past.

Finally can I put in a plug for the Waihi Beach Events & Promotions Committee for their 10th Annual Op Shop Ball, this year to be held on 29 July with the theme ‘Bollywood’. Clubs such as ours and Waihi Beach benefit from this committee so we should support them as much as we can. A poster is attached to this email.

see you on court Sunday

Hi All – It’s all happening.
For those Waihi Beach members 60 years plus the annual Ted McCowatt Memorial Senior Tournament is to be held next Tuesday morning at 9am. This tournament, in memory of life member Ted McCowatt, is played over 3 x 20 minute games, card draw for partners, table tennis scoring. The highest scoring man & lady will share the trophy. Simple and fun with a little bit of serious tennis for a very nice trophy. A small plate would be appreciated for morning tea. Those regular Tuesday morning players who are not yet 60 (there must be so many of you), are welcome to join in but you will not qualify for the trophy – your turn will come!!

Winter Team Tennis is underway and we have 2 teams playing under lights on either a Tuesday or Wednesday night at 5.45pm. Jane tells me that all is going well but she would like to hear from anyone that would be willing to fill in as a reserve for either night or both, to contact her 07 863 1117 or 021 2553447.

Junior Winter Coaching with Shannon, funded by our club, also got away to a very good start on Monday afternoon with 27 juniors taking part. Amazing considering it supposed to be winter!! Contact Helen, 022 3793620, if you would like to join in.

Shannon is also taking a Tennis Fun & Skills for All session at 7pm or before Junior Coaching at 2.30 on Mondays for senior members. It’s all about fitness & skills for tennis for $5pp per session. A quote from a senior member after Monday’s evening session “What an excellent session, everyone should be doing it! Really good for fitness, court awareness and strategies” Contact Helen or Shannon 021 02253308 if you would like to join in.

Sunday Graded Club Tennis is also now well established on Sundays between 3 and 5pm. Becoming very popular with some good hard games to increase your skills. Join us!

Well as I said, it’s all happening!! Our club has never been stronger and new members are still joining every week. Half price subs now available until the new season starts. Take advantage of it if you know someone who may like to join!
Post script: I was very privileged to be part of a random 4 men playing tennis on club day on Tuesday morning. There was a combined age of 317 years! How’s that for experience? Why was I privileged? – It is so great just to be there and I believe I owe most of that to tennis J

JUNIOR COACHING WINTER
Shannon is back with us to coach the juniors for 8 weeks from Monday 8th May through to Monday 3rd July.
There will be no coaching on Queen’s Birthday, Monday June 5th.
Below are the names we have and the times for junior coaching sessions.
Any questions/additions/subtractions/etc. contact Helen 022-379-3620 or message on FB.
SENIOR COACHING
Shannon is also offering his services to senior players interested in either getting into Tennis, improving singles/doubles skills or upping their tennis fitness. Ideally this would be for between 6 and 12 senior players at $5pp for an hour session. This is a great and very affordable way to keep up your Tennis skills and get a jump on the competition next summer. This would be on Mondays before and/or after junior coaching, starting 8 May.
ONE TO ONE PRIVATE COACHING
One on one private coaching is available for all players on Mondays between the hours of 1 and 3pm or after 6.30pm (Shannon lives an hour away he can try to arrange alternate times to suit). Shannon’s hourly rate for this would be $60 with a minimum session of half an hour for $30.
If you’re interested in SENIOR or ONE TO ONE PRIVATE COACHING please contact Shannon at 021-022-53308 or shannonpaki@gmail.com .

Hi All
Firstly it is great to see such an upsurge in membership particularly on the Junior side and also with the large number of families moving into the area, we have a good number of new senior members as well. We welcome you all. There has also been strong support for the juniors from parents which is very encouraging. As a point of interest, there were a number of players waiting for courts on Friday evening which was great to see. Our current membership stands at 112 Senior and 69 Junior financial members.
*****************
Please note that next Tuesday 25th April is ANZAC Day, so in respect, there will be no morning tennis and our courts will be closed until 1pm. For those of you that would like a game in the afternoon please turn up at 1pm for an impromptu hit out.
****************
There has been a very good response, (at this stage over 20 players), to the proposed Junior coaching over the winter terms. The committee has therefore decided to employ Coach Shannon again for this coaching period. We will be seeking funding for this but in the meantime because of the huge response and success, we will meet all costs to enable our junior members to continue with this free coaching.
Coaching will be held on Monday afternoons/early evening starting on Monday 8th May. There will be smaller groups with individual times being
Under 7 years 3.30 – 4.30 pm; 7 – 10 years 4.30 – 5.30; Squad for the future 5.30 – 6.30
Any members that would like to take part and have not yet registered for this coaching or would like further information please contact Helen 022 3793620.
*****************
Thanks to Jane there is a strong interest for Team Tennis over the winter months and she has a list of interested members keen to take part. As there are only 2 courts with lights it will be played over two nights starting on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd May. Teams may play on either the Tuesday or Wednesday nights. Those of you who would like to play and don’t have a team please contact Jane on 07 863 1117 or 027 3927821. Otherwise for the first week just turn up on your chosen night so that teams can be graded accordingly. Please be there by 5.45pm or contact Jane for further info.
******************
Finally, after all the good news we have a problem!! It is widely known and respected by all that we have one of the best tennis courts in the BOP and I would say much wider afield. It is also widely known by our members that the wonderful condition of our courts is due to the dedication and expertise of Devon Brooks, our court maintenance man and club captain. Unfortunately at our last meeting Devon tendered his resignation as of 25th June to pursue other interests.
Please, would there be any member or non member or non player for that matter, that would consider taking on the position of Court Maintenance. There is a token remuneration for this position and Devon would certainly pass on his expertise to any person that would like to look at this possibility. Would certainly suit a retired person that was willing to give some time when necessary. If you could help in this regard or would like further information contact Craig 021 2204745 or talk to Devon 07 8634002 or 021 800933. Your help or ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

A reminder to Juniors and Parents,
Saturday the 8th marks the last day of Junior Tennis for Term 1. Coach Shannon will run a parent/child fun tournament that will be followed by prize giving. Hopefully' all juniors will have a parent, grandparent, minder, or adult partner to play tennis with. If this is a problem for anyone contact Yvonne 07-863-5964 or 027-346-3034 or Barry 027 4926475. If any adult members could help out in this regard please also ring the above and we will put you down as a substitute if required.
So parents get that tennis gear out and it would be great if you can bring along a plate of food to share for lunch.
Shannon will talk to parents on Saturday to get an idea of interest in coaching for next term which will if there is enough interest, be subsidised by the club and also what you would like and want for the future.
So this is what's happening.
8:30 - 9:15 - first junior group to bring their parents out for warm up and king of the court, followed by giving of certificates to each player.9:15 - 12 pm - The remainder of juniors and their parents or adult partner to play in the spirit of the game, a minimum of 2 games and enjoy time together playing the sport of tennis!!

Attention mid week morning players – Tuesday 10th will be a fun Easter Tournament with a Hot Cross Bun morning Tea. This will be provided by the club.

Waihi Beach Tennis Club Newsletter 29 March 2017
Hi All
Now that the club championships are over, we can start looking forward to the winter. Firstly though a reminder that on Saturday 8th, being our last day of coaching for the term, Shannon is organising a FUN PARENT CHILD TOURNAMENT to finish with the prize giving following. This is a fun day for the Juniors with all juniors having an adult partner but with some competition to make it a tennis morning. Further details in the website. Shannon is also looking to see how many juniors would like to continue coaching through the winter. If there is enough support the club will fund it.
With daylight saving finishing this coming weekend Team Tennis concluded this week but Jane reports that there is good support to keep team tennis going during winter and the proposal is to play on Tuesday and Wednesday nights with an A and B Grade, under lights. Jane has 11 players that have put their names down already. The thought is of having 8 play on each night but reserves will be required as well. Members would have to choose which night they wish to play. The competition would start after school holidays probably at 5.45pm - 6pm. Jane would like feedback on this idea and if interested please contact her asap to register or she would welcome any feedback. Contact her on broughtonjagb@gmail.com or 0212553447.
Finally, there is still good support to carry on with graded Sunday Tennis through the winter. Starting this Sunday because of daylight saving finishing we will start at 3pm not 4pm.
See you on court

Just a reminder that the Senior Club Championships are to be held this Sunday (26th) starting at 9am. Would all trophy holders please return their trophies to Yvonne, Helen or any committee member ASAP.
Also, a reminder the the Junior Championships conclude on Saturday with the doubles.
Also, would all Junior parents please note that on Saturday 8th, being our last day of coaching for the term, Shannon is organising a FUN PARENT CHILD TOURNAMENT to finish and with the prize giving after that concludes.
Here are some basic details:
Junior children to have a parent, grandparent, minder or adult partner. We might have to have a few members around to help out so that every child has an adult partner. The intention is to be a fun day for the children so hopefully we have a good turn out.
Time: 8:30 - 9:15 first group to bring their parents out for warm up and a King of the Court Competition, followed by giving of certificates to each player.
Time: 9:15 - 12 pm - The other junior group and their parents or adult partner to play min of 2 games and enjoy time with kids and playing the sport of tennis!!
We would like all juniors to bring a shared plate of food for lunch. Shannon would like to have the opportunity to talk to parents during this time and get an idea of interest and what they like and want for the future. The club will sponsor coaching over the winter term if there are enough juniors available. How many juniors would be effected by winter sports – is Saturday morning to much of a clash? We need to talk about it and hopefully a decision can be made at this time.
Prize giving to follow for singles and doubles and special awards. There will also be some spot prizes on the day.

Hi All (2nd Nov 2017)
Re the club championships. The final date for entries for the club championships will be Tuesday 21st March at 7pm. Depending on these entries will be the decision to whether or not extend the championships over 2 days. At this point in time the championships have been set for Sunday 26th March at 9am with a rain date of 2 April.
Working Bee reminder - this Sunday 5th March at 9am. You will need pruning equipment to cut back the trees & shrubs from the court fence on courts 3 & 4. If anyone can bring a trailer and can dispose of the cuttings it would be very much appreciated. Otherwise we may have to stack them and possibly obtain a mulcher to dispose of them. Any help in this regard would be appreciated.
We also need to replace some of the ties on the retaining wires so will also need pliers, cutters etc. The 3rd thing is to clean out the drain alongside the top courts.
If we get the numbers I still think we can be out of there in an hour.
See you there
Cheers
BJ. 027 4926475; 07 863 5565
Club Newsletter – February 26, 2017
Hi All
Just an update on what’s happening as we near the end of February and at long last the beginning of summer. J
It is certainly great to see a real increase in membership, especially in our junior ranks. We have also gained a number of family memberships in conjunction with the new juniors and it is also wonderful to see new senior members joining the club after shifting here to Waihi Beach. The free coaching instigated by the club for all financial junior members has been well received and has boosted our financial juniors to 70. A remarkable achievement with many thanks to coach Shannon and our committee members Craig, Helen, Yvonne & Jude. Thanks also to the Waihi Beach Primary School where the vast majority of members have come from. This certainly is a growth period for our club.
Our coach Shannon is running our Junior Championships this year on Saturdays 11th, 18th, & 25th March with prize giving on the April 8th. Parents please note these dates down – further details closer to the time from Shannon on Saturday mornings.
Looking forward, the committee is seeking sponsorships and grants to keep this coaching going into the future. We are confident as a club we can achieve this goal. Shannon is also offering his services for additional coaching to the top juniors on Saturday mornings.
We are always looking at ways to improve our thriving club and appreciate input from our members so don’t hesitate to let the committee know what you would like to see. Further improvements under consideration is now that the retaining wall is completed on the top courts we go ahead with erecting wind/glare cloth on the southern fence of the top courts similar to courts 3 & 4. In conjuction with the WBOPDC we would also like to take out the low shrubs on the bank between courts 2 & 3 and replace with pebbles or similar. This area has been a problem for weeding and trapping the tennis balls that happen to stray there. We would also like to take out the pohutakawa trees against the top courts which are causing concern with root damage, consistent debris falling on the courts and the real possibility of falling trees such as last year’s fall that have is an imminent danger to players.
Coming up on Sunday 5th March at 9am is another one of those short sharp working bees that are always so successful with the club. We need to trim back the trees from the roadside fence on courts 3 & 4, general maintenance of the courts fences - there are a lot of ties missing. The top drain needs cleaning and there is quite a few branches etc around the old clubhouse that need shifting. We will need manpower and a trailer or 2 but if there is the usual good attendance it should only take an hour.
2016/17 Club Championships will take part this year in a new format. The championships (with the exception of the Juniors as mentioned above), will take part over 1 day. This date being the 26th March starting at 9am with a rain date of 2 April. Keep this date free, further details later but entries must be in by 5pm on the 24th March. Entries on the club notice board or send Helen an email.
Sunday afternoon graded club tennis seems to be established and has a good following of players. Just turn up at 4pm on Sunday and have a game or 2 with players of your own ability.
That’s it for now.
See you on court.

Hi All
Just a quick note to let you know there has been quite a bit of feed back re Sunday tennis. As a result of this discussion and on a trial basis we are going to try another club day at 4pm this Sunday. The general discussion is that senior members prefer at times to play with other members of similar ability so in that respect the tennis will be graded.
So make an effort and come along for a game at 4pm and hopefully it will end up as a regular club day. Don't forget to bring liquids. If you would like further information ring Devon at 07 863 4002.

Also a reminder that Junior coaching with Shannon restarts tomorrow. Children 5 - 7 years 8.30 - 9.15am. Students 8 9.15 - 10.30am. This may be a clash with the Junior Eastern District Surf Life Saving Championships at which 650 children will be attending so its going to be a big morning at the beach.

Hi All
Well believe it or not it is February and Summer is on the way out!! However, on the bright side, and apart from that consistent wind, it has been a good year for tennis. Gate takings for casual tennis have been very high and our organised club days on Tuesday & Friday mornings have seen record numbers. At times especially on a Tuesday we have all 6 courts full and members waiting. Our Summer Tennis Tournaments were again a huge success and Helen has entries already for next year. This is a great fundraiser and we thank all of our sponsors and helpers that make these tournaments such a success. If you would like any further details of these tournaments there is a write up and full results in our website.
Tuesday night Team tennis has started again and is also proving again to be very popular. Contact Devon 07 863 4002 if you could like to be a stand by emergency if a team member can’t make it.
We are still lacking another night or afternoon somewhere where senior club members can get together for a game or 2. Sunday and Wednesday night has not proved popular so we still need to work on that one.
Our club membership has grown just recently as new families enter the area and others have joined for fitness and fellowship. Our free Junior coaching programme for all junior financial members last year has also been a hit with whole families joining for the privilege.
As we are half way through the season the committee has offered a 50% reduction in family membership if there are any new families that would like to join.
The Junior coaching programme starts again this Saturday, 11th February and will run for 9 weeks.
Just a reminder that because of the larger than expected numbers taking advantage of the subsidized junior coaching, age groups are being split in two. This will help Shannon concentrate on the different levels of abilities so giving more benefit to all of the participants.

Over the Summer holiday period Helen has received a number of enquiries from visitors that would like a game of tennis and wish to hire racquets. We have a good number of children racquets but lack adult racquets. If by any chance you have a spare racquet or 2 with no further use, the club would very much like to take them off your hands as there certainly is a market for hireage out there. Contact Helen or drop with a committee member at the club.

Keep in mind that the Club Championships will start very shortly. We have a committee meeting next Wednesday night, 15th so expect some dates and action from that meeting.

Our club now has a Webpage and a Facebook Page (locations at top of newsletter). A club calendar and all relevant club information and gallery can be found on the Website. Support the Facebook page and give us a like.

That’s all for now see you on court!

Finally, I finish with a sad note that yesterday morning following a stroke a week before Frank Warn has passed away. Frank and his past wife Maxine were very good tennis players taking many Thames Valley titles. On moving to Waihi Beach from Waihi, Frank has played regular tennis right up to his illness. Aged 80 years Frank was one of our eldest and very well respected members. His grandchildren our now following in his footsteps. They couldn’t have a better example to follow. Frank’s funeral is to be held at the Waihi Beach RSA on Thursday 29th January.

Merry Xmas Everybody and enjoy your summer tennis

The weekday morning group finishes with a mini tournament and morning tea on the 20th December. Strawberries and cream is rumoured to be in the mix. Xmas prizes as well! All players welcome to attend.

Saturday morning Junior tennis finishes for the term on the 17th December and restarts on 11th February finishing on 8th April. The free coaching provided by our club to all Junior financial members has been a huge success with numbers around the 30 mark being steady every Saturday. Many thanks to Helen, Jude & Yvonne for their organisation and to our coach Shannon Paki who has great respect from our members. Special mention also to Craig who has been taking Waihi Beach School children mid week for coaching. It all looks great for the future and a good investment.

Subscriptions should now all be paid so if you haven’t paid yours please help the club by getting it paid now – many thanks. Also, if for any reason you are not rejoining this season please let the treasurer Mary (07 863 4272) or Helen (022 379 3620) know so we can bring our records up to date.

Our club working bee held in November was again very successful with all the gardens looking great. Thank you to those that attended, as predicted it was all over in the hour. Our next project is underway now and hopefully will be well completed before Xmas. It has become necessary to replace the retaining wall on the bank supporting the fence between courts 3 & 4 and courts 5 & 6. There may be some disruption on the top courts due to this project as the fence has to be removed (actually removed today) and concrete poured (hopefully tomorrow) so be patient and apologies for any inconvenience. Devon is in charge of this project and he would welcome anyone who could give an hour or two over the next week to make contact with him. (07 863 4002 021 800933). Thanks again Devon for your efforts and organisation with this project and also your continuous time and expertise to keep our courts to the high standard that they are. Our members are very appreciative.

Hi All
Just to say a big thanks to the 17 members who turned up this morning for the working bee and to the others who have done their part during the week.
As predicted when you get a good number of dedicated members turning up we had the majority finished within an hour and just a few remaining to clean up.
Gardens weeded and trimmed, top drain cleared and cleaned out, drainage on 5 cleaned out, all netting reclipped where required and the kitchen turned upside down cleaned and put back together!!
Thank you all, great effort, well done and much appreciated. :-)
This weeks puzzle attached. How many members can you find in the photo? Also not sure what Norm was doing in the bushes on the bank, kept disapearing and reappearing some where else!
Cheers

Club Newsletter – Nov 3 2016
Hi All
Well what an exciting time for our club with over 30 juniors attending last Saturday’s coaching session with Shannon Paki. The committee decided to pay the cost for the next two school terms of coaching for all of our financial club juniors, and our investment certainly paid off. Special mention and thanks to Helen, Jude, Yvonne & Craig for their initiative, time and efforts.
In Craig’s words
‘ The numbers at junior tennis on Saturday were nothing short of awesome – thank you to all of those that attended’
Because of the larger than expected numbers (5 or 6 before instigating this scheme), age groups will be split in two. This will help Shannon concentrate on the different levels of abilities so giving more benefit to all of the participants.
